Meet Claire
Claire’s practice explores the sense of awe she experiences in nature, especially in the Tasmanian wilderness. Her paintings explore a dissolving of the sense of self that is exposed by spending time in wild places.
These new works are painted from memory, and occasionally the compositions are derived from marks collected by chance while taking the canvases camping and hiking.
Claire holds a degree in Visual Arts from the Australian National University School of Art, and has developed her practice through international residencies in Iceland, Japan, Samoa and Australia. Her work has been exhibited across Australia, the UK, US, Japan and Samoa.
